The BJJ Scene in Dallas

This is a page for the whole Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, not just the city of Dallas, and most of the training happens in the suburbs. The biggest clusters are north of Dallas around Plano, Frisco and McKinney, with another strong group northeast of Fort Worth around Southlake and Keller. In Dallas itself, Oak Cliff and the Design District have the most gyms. Toward Fort Worth there are more in places like Arlington and Grand Prairie, and in Fort Worth proper.

Distances across the Metroplex are long, and most people drive, so look close to where you live or work rather than at Dallas as a whole. It's also worth checking the timetable for gi and no-gi classes before you sign up, because quite a few gyms here are MMA gyms with a jiu-jitsu program rather than BJJ-only academies.

Gracie Barra and Machado-affiliated academies are both spread widely across the suburbs. Plenty of other well-known teams have a school somewhere in the area too, including 10th Planet, Alliance, Checkmat, Marcelo Garcia, Caio Terra, and Carlson, Renzo and Roger Gracie. Alvarez Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Arlington, Alex Martins Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in West Dallas and Mezger Martial Arts in Richardson have pulled in some of the highest Google review totals in the Metroplex.
