The BJJ Scene in London
Zone 1 is only the start of our London page. Inner London has plenty of academies, from Hammersmith and Fulham to Elephant and Castle and Canary Wharf, but a large share of the city's gyms sit in the outer boroughs: Ilford and Romford in the east, Croydon and Bromley in the south, Kingston upon Thames in the southwest, and Harrow and Enfield in the north. We've also taken in Watford, just outside London in Hertfordshire.
All that ground matters, because a trip across London can easily take an hour. Most people do better training near home or on the way to work than chasing one particular academy across town. If you're visiting, find something on your Tube or rail line, and check with the academy before you go, since open mats and visitor policies vary from one to the next.
Roger Gracie's team has its HQ in Hammersmith, plus academies in Euston and Watford. Carlson Gracie, Gracie Barra, 10th Planet, Alliance, Carpe Diem and Checkmat all have a presence too. And for sheer number of Google reviews, Fightzone London, London Fight Factory and Valour Jiu-Jitsu in Fulham are hard to beat.
