The BJJ Scene in Johannesburg
Johannesburg's gyms cover a lot of ground, so start with your side of town. The northern suburbs around Sandton have the most, from Bryanston and Sunninghill up to Fourways, with Blairgowrie a little to the west, and there are a few more out on the Roodepoort side and up in Midrand. The East Rand is part of this page too, and it has a good number of its own, mainly in Edenvale, Bedfordview and Boksburg.
MMA has a real foothold here: the gym with the most Google reviews is Warriors MMA Academy in Blairgowrie, with QuanWessels Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Sunninghill and Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Fourways behind it. Gracie Barra has an academy in Bryanston.
Read the address closely before you set off, because some gyms train inside someone else's building. Warriors is based at Delta Park School, and QuanWessels works out of a fitness club in Sunninghill, so the name on the gate may not be the gym's.
