The BJJ Scene in Rome
Rome in August takes a little planning. Much of Italy takes its summer break around Ferragosto, the August 15 public holiday, and plenty of businesses close for part of the month, so check that the academy you have in mind is open before you pack your gi.
Otzuka Club Rome is well ahead of everyone on Google reviews, with Roger Gracie Roma and Nemeos Sport Academy, on Via Ostiense, next. Roger Gracie and Gracie Barra both have academies in the city, and MMA gyms barely register here.
Most of the gyms are in Rome itself, spread from Roma Nord down to Ostiense and east to Centocelle. The page also reaches the sea at Ostia, Rome's own stretch of coast, and next door at Fiumicino, and it takes in the towns around the city: Frascati up in the hills, plus Ciampino, Pomezia and Monterotondo. If you're arriving by train, Gracie Barra Roma is a short walk from Termini, on Viale Castro Pretorio.
