The BJJ Scene in Munich
A lot of Munich's jiu-jitsu is taught in fight gyms, where BJJ shares the timetable with MMA. That's worth knowing up front: if you want to roll most nights, check how many of the week's classes are actually jiu-jitsu, and whether they're gi, no-gi or both.
On Google, nobody comes close to Hutton Academy in Maxvorstadt, the university quarter just north of the old town, for reviews. JUMA Fighthaus in Germering and Ultimate Fighting Academy Munich are next. Beyond Maxvorstadt, the city's gyms are dotted around districts such as Au-Haidhausen, Giesing, Sendling and Trudering, on both sides of the Isar.
We've taken the page past the city limits as well: Dachau, Fürstenfeldbruck and Germering to the west and northwest, and Freising up by the airport, which is worth knowing if you're staying out that way. And if your German is shaky, ask whether the coach can explain techniques in English before your first class.
