The BJJ Scene in Sydney
Higher Jiu Jitsu in Woolloomooloo, Alpha Jiu Jitsu Academy Rouse Hill and Gracie BJJ Alexandria sit at the top end of Sydney's Google review counts. Still, it usually makes more sense here to look near where you live, work or stay than to go by reputation. The city is a long way across, and driving to the other side at peak hour can take far longer than you'd expect.
The good news is that most of the jiu-jitsu is out in the suburbs, not the CBD. The biggest pockets are in the northwest around Castle Hill and Rouse Hill, the Eastern Suburbs around Bondi Junction, the North Shore from Chatswood up to Hornsby, and the Sutherland Shire. The Inner West has gyms of its own too, from Leichhardt to Drummoyne. Gracie Barra is the most widespread team, with academies from Kings Park and Castle Hill to Bondi Junction, St Peters and Caringbah, and you'll also find Alliance and GFTeam.
If you're visiting and based in the city, there are options a short trip from the CBD, and around Bondi Junction if you're near the eastern beaches.
