The BJJ Scene in Gold Coast
The Gold Coast is one long strip of suburbs between the hinterland and the beach, and its gyms run the length of it, from Ormeau and Upper Coomera in the north down to Coolangatta on the New South Wales border. Southport and Burleigh Heads have the most, with the rest scattered through the suburbs in between. If you live at the northern end, our Brisbane page is worth a look too, since the M1 puts the city within reach.
Gracie Barra has more academies here than any other team, one of them in Burleigh Heads. Carlson Gracie is in Bundall and Currumbin, and Axis has academies of its own. Southside Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Burleigh Heads has collected more Google reviews than any other gym on the coast, and Galeb Brothers BJJ in Helensvale and Gracie Barra Surfers Paradise follow. That last one is actually in Southport, not Surfers, which is a good reminder to go by the street address rather than the name when you're working out the drive.
